Green Signage Strategies

Green building practices make a positive impact on the bottom line and they deliver environmental benefits. As the demand for green building practices increase, the need for proven green products and services will grow dramatically. As companies continue to reach new goals, implement better practices and learn from historical data, we will all benefit through access to more eco-friendly materials, practices and overall reduced costs to implement greener solutions.

Here are a few questions we commonly hear from the marketplace:

How Does Signage Impact Green Building Strategies?

Signage strategy can utilize the same philosophies of current green building practices and deliver the same benefits. What are the goals and important values that are being utilized in the design and construction process? Make sure those same strategies are communicated and considered for implementation in the signage program as well.

What are Considerations for Green Signage Strategies?

There are several considerations when evaluating architectural signage solutions to assist in making an impact. We have outlined the high level points that should guide the overall signage design and program implementation.

  • Cost – this is a driving factor to determine the best strategies that can actually be implemented
  • Material selection – form follows function, then determine the best materials
  • Signage design – maximize material usage to reduce waste and scrapes
  • Manufacturing processes – ensuring optimal processes are being utilized to develop the finished product
  • Longevity – implement a signage program that can sustain a longer time in the lifecycle resulting in less time in the waste-cycle

Contact ASI to discuss these topics in more detail to assist in the implementation of a green signage solution. We can discuss options and strategies in more detail – such as the benefits of solar for exterior applications, use of LEDs, modular strategies for interior signage and share our knowledge on these strategies as it relates to a specific segment such as healthcare signage.

Can Green Signage Earn a LEED® Point?

This is a question that many in the industry debate and a variety of answers circulate. In many cases, signage is a small portion of the overall construction budget so it may have a limited ability to actually contribute to LEED® points through product application. Signage however should be evaluated on a case by case basis to determine its ability to contribute to LEED® points.
