Comprehensive Signage Package for Retirement Facility Expansion

Markets Served: Residential

Project: Deupree House II – Cincinnati, OH

Deupree House II is a not-for-profit retirement community offering independent living located in the Hyde Park/Oakley neighborhood of Cincinnati. The facility originally offered 82 apartments, but added 60 new apartments in the first quarter of 2007, under the title Deupree House II.

Customer Needs

Deupree House II needed a comprehensive interior and exterior signage system that would tie in to the original Deupree House. Because the two buildings are connected, the client also needed a clear wayfinding plan to ensure that residents and visitors could navigate efficiently. The signs needed to be ADA compliant, yet have a soft, home-like appearance to increase the comfort of the residents.

About the Solution

ASI provided signage that helped to move residents, staff, and visitors throughout the facility without looking institutional. For the apartment room IDs, ASI created an etched plaque with a curved top to soften the hard lines of a typical room sign. The sign was to be more of an address plaque that you might find on your own home. ASI then added directional signs using frosted acrylic and button hardware. The intent was to be unexpected without losing function.

The dining room ID was designed to look more like a restaurant marquee than an average sign. ASI applied frosted vinyl to the walls of glass in the conference room with a palette of falling leaves to enhance the space. The fitness area also used a vinyl application of vivid orange and apple green bouncing across the glass to create the sense of activity in the space.

Exterior signage was included in the package as well. For the main ID, ASI fabricated brass painted lettering with white LED halo illumination. The letters were applied to a curved, low brick wall at the entrance of the facility. This design gives the campus a warm and welcoming appearance in addition to letting visitors know that they have arrived at the correct destination.
