Urban Community School

Cohesive & Vibrant Campus Wayfinding

Urban Community School, located in Cleveland, Ohio, has a rich history of serving economically disadvantaged families since its founding in 1968. Initially established to provide high-quality education to urban students, UCS has grown into a comprehensive educational institution, dedicated to fostering academic excellence and holistic development for children from six weeks old through 8th grade.

UCS launched an extensive campus-wide initiative to revamp their exterior signage to enhance wayfinding and cohesion across the multi-building campus.

ASI was brought on to complete the multi-phase project encompassing an array of signage elements, including trailblazing signs, facility IDs, parking IDs, building names, secondary ground IDs, partner signage, on-building addresses for partners, and donor recognition signage.

About the Solution

ASI collaborated with Guide Studio, ensuring the transformation of conceptual designs into tangible, durable signs engineered to withstand the specific environmental challenges of Cleveland.

The signage is color-coded to a specific area or building, further aiding in wayfinding. This colorful signage not only serves its navigational purpose but also brings visual vibrancy to the urban school setting, enhancing the overall atmosphere.

Urban Community School’s new wayfinding system addresses challenges such as directing individuals to the correct partner facility and creating signage with dual purposes, ultimately contributing to an enriched and navigable campus environment.
