Hynes Charter School has long stood as a pillar of public education in New Orleans, known for its rigorous academics, gifted and talented programming, and robust offerings in the arts, literacy, and STEM. In August 2024, the school opened a new, state‑of‑the‑art K–8 campus on the University of New Orleans campus, its second permanent facility in just a few years and part of a strategic expansion in partnership with UNO. The new building is designed to serve over 900 students at full capacity.
To support this major milestone, ASI was selected to deliver a custom signage and graphics package tailored to the new campus. Working closely with school leadership, Grace Hebert Curtis Architects, and the general contractor, LEMOINE, ASI built on its prior collaboration with Hynes to ensure the signage integrated seamlessly into the new space.
About the Solution
ASI crafted this educational signage program to feature themed classroom wings designed around distinct world climates, transforming traditional wayfinding into an immersive, curriculum-enhancing experience. Each climate theme was brought to life through vibrant graphics, dimensional elements, and carefully coordinated signage that guides students while sparking curiosity.
Now, signage balances playful visual storytelling with practical navigation, reinforcing the school’s mission to foster global awareness, academic exploration, and a sense of place. The result is a cohesive and imaginative signage system that enriches the student journey while elevating the identity of Hynes’ newest academic environment.
