Methodist Hospital is an award-winning hospital and specialty care center located in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Recognized by Watson Health as a 100 Top Hospitals recipient, the healthcare facility has been a longstanding cornerstone of the local community.
Methodist Hospital had major way finding challenges at their campus. ASI was consulted to provide a phased project with Design-Build services that included a site audit, design services, wayfinding, production and installation. The first phase of the project included the two main floors which are frequently congested with patient traffic. Phase 2 includes the remainder of the floors.
As part of the comprehensive rebrand, ASI took part in a community focus group designed to ensure all patients, staff, and their guests could easily comprehend and follow the wayfinding logic.
About the Solution
Serving the community with diverse healthcare services from birth assistance to cancer care, this large campus includes two multi-level parking ramps and four connected buildings with multiple entries and floors. ASI consulted with various departments of the hospital and even conducted a trial mock-up complete with temporary signage to test the effectiveness of the proposed wayfinding.
ASI educated the staff on the proposed wayfinding system, which included changing the building names to numbers in order to stay consistent with exterior signage. ASI’s greatest challenge was implementing consistent nomenclature and emphasizing the need for consistent communication with patients and staff.
This ASI Design-Build project was successfully completed after two years of thoughtful planning and strategic implementation.
