LSU Billy Cannon Dedication Plaques

Celebrating Athletic Achievement of Heisman Trophy Winner

Dr. Billy Cannon was born on August 2, 1937. He became the one of the most heralded and identifiable college football players in NCAA history and was largely responsible for the emergence of big-time football at Louisiana State University. Not only did he win the Heisman Trophy in 1959, but he also led LSU to the 1958 national championship. His No. 20 jersey was retired in 1959. Dr. Billy Cannon passed away at the age of 80 on May 20, 2018. To this day, Billy Cannon remains the only LSU recipient of the Heisman Trophy.

About the Solution

On September 28, 2018, a statue of Billy Cannon was unveiled just outside Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Additionally, ASI was commissioned to produce and install three cast bronze plaques at Tiger Stadium. The first plaque was a Bio Plaque, the second plaque was an Accomplishments Plaque, and the third plaque was a Number Plaque, identifying Billy Cannon’s Jersey, Number 20. The plaques were designed to be mounted on the pedestal of the statue of Dr. Cannon. ASI faced a deadline for the completion of this project; the deadline being the dedication ceremony, and successfully completed the project on time.
