Poste Apartments

Custom Multifamily Housing Signage

Poste Apartments is a mix of urban apartment homes and retail spaces located in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, OH. Poste Apartments represents the second venture in Cincinnati by the development firm Milhaus, an award-winning, mixed-use development, construction and property management company that specializes in multifamily residential buildings.

Poste Apartments is unique in that, typically, signage for apartment unit rooms would not need to follow ADA guidelines. However, as some of the units were to be FHA, the signage needed to be ADA compliant. Due to this, ASI needed to design signage that met the guidelines while matching the designer’s creative intent.

ASI was contracted to complete a multi-phase wayfinding signage program which would require in-depth coordination and consultation with the client.

About the Solution

The unit signs include an enlarged cutout number as a top layer connected to a backer. ASI added 3D clear printed numbers and Braille below the cutout numbers to satisfy the non-visual portion of the IDs while keeping the unique design intact.

The exterior signage is custom. In particular, the exterior marquee sign was designed to glow orange from the edges with illuminated letters on the faces. This Walnut Hills area has a historical overlay, so ASI had to take special effort in obtaining permits, as there was an extra layer of approvals required.

ASI’s custom signage program’s success stems from client coordination and upholding a unique design intent despite additional regulations.
